Military History: January 9th, 1945

Did you know that on January 9th, 1945, General Douglas MacArthur and the American 6th Fleet landed at the Lingayen Gulf of Luzon, greeted by cheering Filipinos, marking another key step in the capture of the Philippine Islands. This was made possible following the fall of Leyte Island after 67 days of intense fighting and the deaths of tens of thousands of Japanese troops and more than 3,500 Americans.
