Boots in the House

November, 2018:

A few of my coworkers at the Department of Veterans Affairs and I volunteered for Boots in the House, a faith based organization that sends care packages to all branches of the armed forces deployed in hostile and remote locations. They also ship K-9 care packages for deployed K-9 Units and Spa packages for deployed women.

Boots in the House is 100% volunteer based and currently operates out of First Baptist Church of Tempe, AZ.

You don’t have to live in Arizona to join in and help. They accept care package items and cash donations. Anyone can nominate an active duty military service member to receive a care package provided they meet certain qualifications.

We helped package Care Packages For Heroes – Holiday Cheer 2018 , and we each were honored to sign a Christmas card to include in a package. Their 2018 goal is to send 600 packages to service members of all branches of service, deployed around the world in over 50 units.

Each USPS Priority Mail box we filled was hand decorated with art and notes. We filled each box to capacity with food items, snacks, nutrition bars, condiments, playing cards, videos, magazines, books, etc., and topped the box off with a hand signed Christmas card, a handwritten letter from a child and a card telling them “Thank you for your service.” and information on how the service member can connect with Boots in the House.

The decorated boxes and handwritten letters came from various schools, churches, youth groups and scout troops. Most of the notes on the boxes and letters were touching. You couldn’t help but notice how each decorated box reflected the artist’s creativity, patriotism, love, prayers, words of encouragement, support, compassion, innocence.

Remember to thank a vet.
